With Super Bowl XLVII just around the corner, it’s either the best possible time, or the worst, to try and understand the wacky world of competitive gaming. But, as expected, PBS does a pretty damn fine job laying it all out.
Much as they did with Minecraft, PBS has done an amazing job breaking down eSports: including a brief history of competitive gaming, the four major genres of eSports, how live spectatorship has helped to blow things up, and even what it’s like to a pro Street Fighter player…
Still, you don’t have to be a diehard traditional sports fan to still believe that eSports is still kind of silly. Trust me, plenty of us diehard gamers also don’t get it, even though we technically should, if only for the sake of solidarity.
