Ruffles

Move over Edible Arrangements, the gourmet gift game just got real. Ruffles wants you to get crafty and build your own BROquet made out of their delicious chips. I know what you’re thinking. Why the hell would you want to do that? Well, I’ll tell you what they told me.

Forget the bouquets for that special someone this Valentine's Day, starting on Monday, Feb. 11, 2013 in New York, NY, Ruffles is helping guys give their bros a little love – in the form of a "broquet" made almost exclusively out of Ruffles potato chips. In anticipation of its new line of Ruffles Max Beer-Battered Onion rings debuting later this month, the snack brand from PepsiCo's Frito-Lay division is looking to heat up bromances this winter by encouraging guys to create their own "broquet" and share it on the Ruffles Facebook page.

First of all, bromances don’t “heat up.” Sure, I’d be more than happy if some dude brought me chips. Throw in a 30-rack and we can have ourselves a gay old time. If the chips are delicately crafted into a lovely arrangement though, of which I don’t even grasp the physics, we’re going to have problems. I’m obviously not going to leave that broquet on my table. They’d go stale within hours and would then be useless to me. There are starving kids in Africa, and you want me to waste perfectly good ridge-filled Ruffles? I don’t think so. Plus, I don’t need Ratatouille scurrying into my house because I left food out.

Wake me up when the Beer-Battered Onion rings turn up. That’s something I can fully support. If you really feel compelled to celebrate “Singles Awareness Day” though, feel free to assemble a broquet (why must we put bro in everything, dammit!) and share it on the Ruffles Facebook page.
