The Polo Club Lounge in New Orleans is selling a $10,000 Super Bowl cocktail this weekend. While the price of the Key to the City Cocktail is certainly outlandish, it’s a little bit misleading.

First, to the drink itself.  It’s a D'Oliveiras Malvasia 1907 Madeira Cobbler garnished with fresh fruit. Wait, what? Yes, a cobbler is drink, not a dessert, and this one is made from $400+  wine. It’s served in a silver julep cup (also known as a gobbler tin), and comes with an additional gold souvenier julep cup. That still wouldn’t warrant a ten-stack price tag. So what makes up the difference? A vacation.

Your entire trip to N’awlins is included in the price of the drink. That four ounces of booze is accompanied by:

  • A two-night stay in the hotel’s exclusive Penthouse with concierge and butler service
  • Round-trip airport transportation
  • A bottle of champagne upon arrival
  • Two spa treatments
  • A New Orleans city tour
  • An evening at Irvin Mayfield's Jazz Playhouse

Apparently the Polo Club Lounge is secretly just Apple Vacations operating as a bar. There has been a race to the ridiculous in terms of trying to sell the highest priced everything simply for notoriety’s sake, but this is clearly cheating. To call this a $10K cocktail is downright disrespectful to all the places that are legitimately overcharging for drinks.
