Not to be outdone by McDonald’s new menu items, Taco Bell is creating a “$1 Cravings” menu. It has some familiar items and a few new ones, but is really meant to simplify your menu scanning.

The new menu is sorted into Beefy, Cheesy, Spicy, Crunchy, and Sweet. I think we can all agree that “Mexican” food is the same 6 ingredients remixed in various ways, so it’s always nice to consolidate. You’ll spot some old favorites up on the board, with the Cheesy Rice & Bean Burrito, Spicy Chicken Mini Quesadilla, and a Spicy Cheesey Roll-up added to the mix.

Some prices have come down while the 89-cent items were raised. Whether it’s for our simplicity or a sneaky way to hide a price increase for Taco Bell, people certainly respond to dollar menus better than discount menus. There’s a reason that dollar store exist as opposed to “cheap shit” stores. We love George Washington! This seems like more of a marketing ploy than an actual attempt to introduce new products. While it’s still just being tested, it doesn’t have nearly the hype that the cantina menu did. The appeal of jumping on the $1 menu train is certainly understandable, as it’s worked well for McDonald’s among others. It’s the small item version of the $5 menu, which has become the standard far beyond Subway.

If you live in Fresno, CA or Knoxville, TN, you can check out the new deals right now. Otherwise you’ll have to sit tight and stockpile your Sacagaweas. And don’t forget to keep dreaming sweet dreams of Cool Ranch Doritos tacos.
