According to a new study, female porn stars have a higher self-esteem than most regular women. Who knew that validation was a bukkake scene away?

The Journal of Sex Research cites a new study from researchers at Pennsylvania’s Shippensburg University, Texas Woman's University and the Adult Industry Medical Healthcare Foundation as the basis for their findings.
According to the study that compared 177 adult film stars with regular women of the same age, ethnicity, and marital status, the adult film stars have higher self-esteem, a better quality of life and body image, and are more spiritual than those not having sex on film.
The study looked at women ranging in ages from 18 to 50 who had worked in the sex film industry for an average of three and a half years.
Feminist commentator Dawn Foster took the study with a grain of salt, saying to the UK’s Independent that “It is dangerous to generalize about a huge industry: women who are successful and in control of their careers in one pocket don’t speak for women in the less scrutinized parts.”
The downside? Women in porn were found to have had sex earlier — at age 15 compared to 17 years old for non-sex workers — and also used more drugs than their peers.
In other news, women working in porn were probably also more likely to have worn pigtails past an appropriate age or commit the social faux pas of attempting to pay for a pizza delivery with sexual favors. It’s a delicate balance.
