He doesn’t deserve this. Even if he did pull out of Logan’s Run. Ryan Gosling’s first collaboration with Nicolas Winding Refn was a little movie you might have heard of called Drive. That movie was one of last year’s most unexpected hits, taking the normally sensitive Gosling and casting him as a brooding antihero with a heart of gold, fists of steel and a jacket of pure badass. The working relationship between director and actor was so good that Refn swiftly cast Gosling in his next movie, Only God Forgives.
The flick, which just released its first teaser poster, looks to be as brutal and uncompromising as Drive with a slightly more interesting setting. Gosling plays a drug smuggler who runs a Thai boxing club as cover (yes, in Thailand). When his brother is killed, his insane mother (played by Kristin Scott Thomas) sends her only surviving son on a mission of bloody vengeance against the people responsible. On the way, Gosling picks up a few ass-kickings, judging from his face on the poster.
Gosling and Refn were next slated to work together on a remake of sci-fi classic Logan’s Run, but the actor recently pulled out of the project for unknown reasons. I wouldn’t rule out them working together again, especially if Only God Forgives (which opens next year) does well.
