wolverine Hugh Jackman in talks to be Wolverine again

20th Century Fox

Because why not? Why not just play the same guy over and over if it makes you a ton of money? X-Men: Days Of Future Past is bringing it all back home, adapting the classic time-travel storyline from the 80s comics and serving as a bridge between X-Men: First Class and the first trilogy of movies.

It’s easy to wedge Wolverine into whatever time period you want – dude has lived a couple hundred years and doesn’t seem to age, so you don’t have to worry about old man makeup for him. The Hollywood Reporter has the (not very surprising) scoop that 20th Century Fox is offering Hugh Jackman the part again. If he accepts(and there’s no real reason for him not to), he will have played Wolverine in a staggering seven movies (if you include his cameo in First Class). He’s played the same superhero more than anyone in film history. They should make up an award for him.

Days Of Future Past is sounding like the most interesting and ambitious X-Men movie yet, as it connects the 60s-set First Class with the modern era through a time travel story that sends Kitty Pryde back from a dystopian future where mutants are kept in concentration camps. We already learned that Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen are signed to play the elder Charles Xavier and Magneto, with James McAvoy and Michael Fassbinder as the younger versions of the pair. Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult are also set to return.

Now the big question on everybody’s lips is if Ellen Page will return as Kitty Pryde. She’s the central character in the original version of the story, so they can’t really do it without her, and it would be a shame to recast. X-Men: Days Of Future Past is set to start filming in January of 2013.
